Auto Accidents

Questions to Ask Yourself Following an Automobile Accident.

Understanding Your Injuries…
One of the most stressful aspects of life is dealing with the problems that arise after an auto accident. First and foremost are your injuries, then there are the insurance and legal issues not to mention the stress associated with car repair. A common mistake following an automobile accident is to settle your case with your insurance company before having been evaluated by a doctor trained in soft tissue injuries.

This problem occurs because there are many issues to deal with, such as:
  • Who is going to fix my car?
  • What will I drive in the mean time?
  • Will my insurance rates go up?
  • Who is going to pay for it?
  • And the last thing on your mind is: Am I Really O.K.?

Most people are not aware that some injuries are hidden and are seldom detected for months or even years after the accident. Once you settle your case, you lose the right to have your insurance company pay for treatment if you need it. A good rule of thumb is to be informed of your rights and then make a decision. It is our position that if you were indeed injured, you should get the care you need to get you back to the way you felt and functioned just before the accident.

If you’ve been involved in an automobile accident, we can help. Following a complete diagnostic work-up, a treatment program designed to get you back to pre-injury status – feeling great and fully recovered – will be recommended. We have professional relationships with many attorneys and medical doctors in the immediate area. If you need legal or medical assistance, we will either work with your attorney and/or doctor; or, we can make a recommendation if necessary.

As always, we will process all necessary paperwork with your insurance company and will provide your attorney with all required reports. No insurance, no problem...we will work with your attorney and wait to receive payment upon settlement of your case

whiplashWhiplash– Whiplash usually occurs when the head and neck are unexpectedly or suddenly thrown very quickly in one direction and then rebound in the opposite direction. You might say the head is “whipped” around the neck. In an automobile rear-end injury the first thing that occurs is the body is thrown forwards but the head is thrown backwards and the neck is hyperextended. A whiplash can also result from the sudden stopping of a car where the body remains fairly in place but the head and neck are thrown forwards into hyperflexion. An individual who has been in an accident should first make sure that there are no life threatening emergencies. Once that has been ruled out, since any kind of accident or trauma may (and usually does) cause spinal subluxations (the vertebrae being out of alignment and “pinching” or interfering with the nerves), and since most medical doctors are not trained to locate or correct subluxations, the individual would be well advised to have a chiropractic examination. No amount of painkillers, muscle relaxers or physical therapy can re-align the vertebrae and relieve the nervous system and skeletal system from pressure. What is needed is a chiropractic adjustment to realign the spinal column safely and easily.

Questions to Ask Yourself Following an Automobile Accident.

Q: Should I Meet With An Attorney Before I See A Chiropractor?
A: It is important to get checked out by the doctor first to see if you have serious injuries caused by the accident. Findings from your exam helps provide you with the information needed in order to decide if an attorney is necessary. If you do not have an attorney, we can refer you to a reputable and qualified lawyer.

Q: What If My Car Sustained Only Minor Damage?
A: Documented studies done by Charles Carroll, M.D., Paul McAtee, M.D. and Lee Riley, M.D. revealed that: "The amount of damage to the automobile bears little relation to the force applied to the cervical spine (neck) of the occupants."

In other words, the damage to the passengers is not necessarily directly related to the damage to the vehicle.

Q: If I Need Treatment For This Injury, Do I Have To Pay For It Myself?
A: No, only in very rare circumstances does the patient pay for their care out-of-pocket. Some car insurance policies have what is called "Med Pay." This means that medical bills will be paid at 100% up to a certain limit. Our office can assist you in obtaining this information. If you are represented by an attorney, our office will provide care to you and will wait for payment until the settlement of your case is obtained.

Q: My Insurance Company Has Been Calling Me And Wants To Settle,What Should I Do?
A: We recommend that you do not sign or settle until you have undergone a Chiropractic examination for biomechanical injuries. If you settle before your injury is fully diagnosed and treated, you will be completely on your own and will have to pay out-of-pocket for your care.

Q: I've Been To The Hospital And My Medical Doctor, Do I Really Need to See a Chiropractor?
A: You need a doctor who focuses on the treatment and diagnosis of auto accident injuries. Usually hospitals will check vital signs, make sure there are no life-threatening conditions and release the patient with pain relief medication. They normally do not treat the underlying musculoskeletal biomechanical injuries that often cause or can lead to future pain and suffering. If you are still having problems, you should get a second opinion.

If your M.D. has given you pills, you must understand that pills do not correct structural or soft tissue damage -- they only mask the pain. Chiropractors are uniquely trained to locate and correct many injuries which often occur following an automobile accident.

Q: Does Chiropractic Care Hurt?
A: Absolutely not. Our care is very gentle, safe, and effective. Most patients can hardly wait for their next visit.

Q: Is The Care Safe?
A: Yes, extremely. Particularly when compared to the side-effects from medication.
